iRobot, we all know is one of the leading name in Robot Vacuum industry with their Roomba line. There is absolutely no doubt that they are one of the best in the market, however this does not by any mean guarantee that there can never been any technical issues with their vacuums.

Why it is Important to know how to Reset a Roomba?
Some of the technical issues can only be fixed by resetting the Roomba to original factory settings. That means once the device is reset it will go back to the same settings that Roomba had when it was originally bought from the market that is why lot of people try to understand how to Reset a Roomba?
Resetting is not only done just for technical fixes there can be other reasons for example you bought the Roomba from another person and you want to get rid of all the settings from the previous owner. Another reason people look for resetting Roomba is when they move to new house they want the Roomba to get rid of old house virtual maps so that it can create new map of your home and work accordingly.
Sometimes you can also face WiFi Connection error in your Roomba that can easily be fixed just by Resetting your Roomba.

Therefore we will combine models that have similar instructions for resetting. Further if any model needs specific instructions different from other models we will also cover that in the below article.
Just one last thing before we go in to details Roomba can be reset in two possible ways. The first way to reset Roomba is through the device its self means manual reset and the second way to reset Roomba is through iRobot Home App. For the purpose of reference we can call first type of reset as Soft Reset and Second type of reset as Hard Reset.
The major difference between Soft Reset and Hard Reset is that Soft Reset only resets device and the data on the cloud or app is not lost whereas in case of Hard Reset Roomba goes back to factory resetting and even the data on the app and cloud is lost.

How to Reset a Roomba 600 Series
Roomba 614 Model – Process to Reset
Since Roomba 614 Model series offers no WiFi connectivity, we can only reset it manually. Here is the step by step guide.
Manual Reset
- Press the Clean button to turn on the Roomba 614 Model.
- Next press the Spot and Dock buttons together for at least 10 seconds.
- After 10 seconds just release both the buttons together again.
- That’s it the Roomba will make the sound of Reboot and reset on its own.
Through iRobot Home App
- This model can only be reset manually and does not support iRobot Home App
Roomba 670, 671, 675 and 690 Models – Process to Reset
These models can be reset both Manually and through the iRobot Home App:
Manual Reset
- Press the “Clean” Button to Turn on the Roomba
- Next hold “Spot” and “Dock” buttons together for 10 seconds
- Release both buttons “Spot” and “Dock” together
- Roomba will reset, you will also hear the typical reboot sound
Through iRobot Home App
- Login into your iRobot Home App
- The Go to “Settings” Option
- Find and Click “Factory Reset” option
- Your Roomba is reset
Roomba E5 (5150) Model – Process to Reset
Roomba E5 (5150) Model can also be reset both manually and through the app. Process is mentioned as under:
Manual Reset
- First Turn on the E5
- Next you have to Press “Clean”, “Spot Clean” and “Dock” buttons together for about 10 seconds
- Release all 3 buttons together once you can observe all lights on E5 are turn on
- That’s it Roomba will Reset now wait for a while
Through iRobot Home App
- First login into the iRobot Home App
- Next proceed to “Settings” option
- Press the “Factory Reset” option
- There you go. Your Roomba will reset just wait for a while

How to Reset a Roomba 800 Series
Roomba 805 and 890 – Process to Reset
These models also have the options to reset manually and through the app. Process is as under
Manual Reset
- In the First Step, Hold “Clean” button for around 10 seconds
- Wait until all lights are turned on, then release the button
- You will hear Reboot tone and Start reset process
- Wait until Roomba restarts after resetting
Through iRobot Home App
- First Step go login in to app
- Proceed to Settings icon
- Look for “Factory Reset” option and choose
- Roomba will restart after completing resetting process
How to Reset a Roomba 900 Series
Roomba 960, 980, 985 – Process to Reset
Like most of other models both options of resetting manually and through the app are available. These are as under
Manual Reset
- In the First Step, Hold “Clean” button for around 10 seconds
- Wait until all lights are turned on, then release the button
- You will hear Reboot tone and Start reset process
- Wait until Roomba restarts after resetting
Through iRobot Home App
- First Step go login in to app
- Proceed to Settings icon
- Look for “Factory Reset” option and choose
- Roomba will restart after completing resetting process
How to Reset a Roomba i3/i3+, i7/i7+, i4 Series
Roomba i3 and i3+, i7 and i7+, i4 and i4+, i6 and i6+, and i8 & i8+
Both options of resetting by manually pressing the button to resetting through the app are mentioned below:
Manual Reset
- In First step Hold Clean Button for around 20 Seconds
- Release the button after 20 seconds
- White Light around the clean button will start spinning
- This spinning is indication that Roomba is resetting itself
- Once the light stops spinning it means that Roomba is reset
Through iRobot Home App
- Similar to all other models proceed to the App and Login
- Go to the Setting Option
- Look for the option that says “Factory Reset”
- Choose the option and Roomba will reset as simple as that
How to Reset a Roomba S9 and S9+ Series:
The process is as under:
Manually
- Start by pressing and holding the Clean Button for around 20 seconds
- Release the button after 20 Seconds
- Ring light around the Clean button swirls
- This is the indication of the Roomba Resetting its self. It can take around 1.5 minutes
- Once the light stops the process of resetting is complete.
Through iRobot Home App
- Start by proceeding to the App
- Look for the Setting Options &
- Then look and choose Factory Reset Option
- Wait Roomba will reset and Restart on its own
Lets now discuss another important issue what if even following the above instructions do not result in Roomba getting reset.
What to do if Roomba is still not Resetting?
After following the above instructions if your Roomba is still not working there are few additional things that you should also check:
- Firstly ensure that the battery is properly installed and connected to Roomba
- Also make sure that the Roomba is charged and is charging its self when docked. If not try cleaning the charging contacts and try again.
- Make sure power cable and base unit is plugged and they are working fine
- Make sure that the side wheels are clean from dirt or debris build-up.
- Also another important thing to consider if you have not used your device for a long time it is better to place it on home base and let it charge fully. You can check whether is charging by pressing the “Clean Button” and it should show indications by lighting up if it is getting charged.
If all of the above options are not working for your it is advisable to take your Roomba to an authorized dealer for further advice.
